The District Is Established
Pacific County Fire District 6 is established, formally creating a dedicated fire protection district to serve Bay Center and the surrounding community.
1970's
A New Fire Hall Takes Shape
A new home for the department begins to take shape on Harrison Street.
At the time, the Bay Center Fire Department operated out of a building on Park Street. Fire Chief and longtime Bay Center carpenter Virgil Harrison donated a parcel of land on Harrison Street for a new fire hall.
Virgil, along with family members and fellow volunteer firefighters, devoted countless hours to preparing the property and constructing the department's original two-bay fire hall. The project reflected the strong volunteer spirit and community support that have long been at the heart of Bay Center Fire.
1975
A Leadership Chapter Comes to a Close
After years of service, Virgil Harrison retires as Fire Chief.
Virgil's leadership left a lasting mark on Bay Center Fire District 6—not only through his years as Fire Chief and volunteer firefighter, but also through the land and original fire hall he helped make possible.
1980's
The Fire Hall Grows
A second two-bay building is constructed by department volunteers.
As the department's needs grew, volunteers once again came together to expand the fire facilities. A second two-bay building was constructed alongside the original hall, providing additional space for the department's apparatus and equipment.

From its beginnings in 1961 to the present day, Bay Center Fire District 6 has been built on the dedication of local volunteers, families, and community members.
